Larvae are found in warm, sunny, stagnant habitats with abundant submerged vegetation. Where sufficiently warm, rice fields are used. Females readily bite man and animals (Beklemischev in Boyd 1949).

Medical Importance:
Secondary malaria vector (Beklemischev in Boyd 1949).
